FiveM Connection timed out / Failed to getinfo server: how to fix it
Server->client connection timed out or Failed to getinfo server after 3 attempts? Check the server, port, firewall, VPN, DNS and hitches. Fixes for players and owners.
You pick a server and get one of these:
Connection timed out
Failed to getinfo server after 3 attempts
Server->client connection timed outThe first two usually appear when you try to join. The third often appears while you play, or during loading. The causes overlap, so this guide splits the fixes into "is the server up", "is it your PC", and "is the server overloaded".
Is the server actually up?
Before you change anything on your PC, check it is not the server.
- Try another server. If other servers work, the problem is that server or its network.
- Look at the server's listing, Discord or status page.
- Ask someone else to connect.
If you own the server, check the console of txAdmin: the server must be running with no restart loop, and the address must be right.
Server owners: the port
If nobody can join a server that is running, the port is not reachable from outside. FiveM uses port 30120 by default, on both TCP and UDP.
Check these:
- Windows Firewall or the host's firewall allows
30120TCP and UDP. - On a home setup, the router forwards
30120to the server PC. endpoint_add_tcpandendpoint_add_udpinserver.cfgmatch the port you open.
endpoint_add_tcp "0.0.0.0:30120"
endpoint_add_udp "0.0.0.0:30120"Test the TCP port from another network with PowerShell:
Test-NetConnection -ComputerName YOUR.SERVER.IP -Port 30120TcpTestSucceeded : True means TCP is open. This does not test UDP, so also check your rules for UDP. The full guide is in FiveM server not showing: port forwarding.
Players: firewall and antivirus
A firewall or antivirus on your PC can block FiveM from talking to servers.
- Allow
FiveM.exeandFiveM_GTAProcess.exethrough Windows Firewall, on private and public networks. - Add
%localappdata%\FiveMas an exclusion in your antivirus. - Temporarily turn off third party "internet security" suites to test. If it works, add a rule instead of leaving it off.
Players: VPN and proxy
A VPN adds latency and sometimes blocks UDP traffic. Disconnect it and try again. Some servers also block VPN addresses on purpose. If you must use one, pick a server close to the game server.
Players: DNS and network adapter
If you can join by IP but not by name, or the problem appears on all servers:
ipconfig /flushdnsThen try a different DNS, for example set your adapter to use your router's default or a public resolver. Other things to try:
- Restart your router and PC.
- Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi, which can drop packets.
- Reset the network stack. From an elevated PowerShell, then reboot:
netsh winsock reset- Update the network adapter driver.
Timed out in the middle of a session
When the error appears after you already joined, the server stopped sending you data, or your connection dropped.
Server overloaded. A script that blocks the server thread freezes everything for seconds, and clients time out. In the server console this shows up as hitch warnings. Read Server thread hitch warning to find the resource.
Too many network events. One script that floods the connection can also disconnect you. See Reliable network event overflow.
Server resources. Not enough CPU, RAM or a slow database can have the same effect. Check the host's usage during peaks.
Your side. Packet loss on your connection looks the same. Run a ping test to the server IP for a minute. Drops or large spikes mean the network, not FiveM.
Clear the cache and try again
Corrupted cache files can stall a connection at the loading step. Clear them as in How to clear the FiveM cache, then reconnect.
Checklist
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
Failed to getinfo server after 3 attempts |
Server offline or port 30120 closed, check TCP and UDP |
| Nobody can join, server is running | Open and forward the port, check endpoint_add_tcp and endpoint_add_udp |
| Only you cannot join | Firewall or antivirus on your PC, allow FiveM |
| Fails with a VPN on | Disconnect the VPN |
| Fails on all servers | Flush DNS, restart router, use a cable, update the adapter driver |
Server->client connection timed out during play |
Check hitch warnings on the server, look for event floods |
| Fails at the loading step | Clear the FiveM cache |
Quick answers
What does Failed to getinfo server after 3 attempts mean?
Your FiveM client asked the server for its info three times and got no answer. Either the server is offline, the address or port is wrong, or something between you and it blocks the connection.
Which ports does a FiveM server need?
The default is port 30120, on both TCP and UDP. The server owner must open it on the firewall and forward it on the router if the server runs at home.
Why do I get Server->client connection timed out in the middle of a session?
The client stopped receiving data from the server for too long. Common causes are a server hitch or overload, a network drop on your side, or a script flooding network events.
